Hi Toots:

Tonight I have a light in the tent.  It is well blacked out but I hope Jerry stays away.  I have become most allergic to lights.

The Daily News came today.  Yahoo! Aug. 7 & 12th.

Your letter of Oct. 10 came also.  OK on quitting your job.  I didn’t want you to work in the first place, but it helped pass the time, and sure helped the old finances.  First, get a tire for that spare if you haven’t already.  Then go see both Gerritys and Huntoons.

Time out for news.

You might take a run down to Houston and meet the Aikens.  Honey, don’t go nuts waiting for me like Maggy did.  I’m in disgusting health, show no signs of war fatigue, and I’m thus probably high in the ranks of the most likely man not to go home.  As long as 9 out of 10 men in the army never see combat and I have, if the opportunity to go home were offered, I would certainly accept.  But there is no reason to believe that I will be offered that opportunity.  So just hold it down and I’ll be home as soon as possible.  I estimate another year.

Wonders will never cease.  I got a letter from Ozzie today.  Maybe his accident did him some good.

I see Clark Gable’s airplane # was hit 15 times!  So what.  We had a ship with 130 holes in one wing.  My maximum to date is about 40 on 1 raid.

Guess what I’d say if I was home tonight?    Cy.
