1944 August 15 Operation Dragoon

On August 15, 1944, Allied forces landed on the coast of the French Riviera.  Resistance by the Germans was nothing like the Normandy invasion and the Allies quickly established a beach head and moved inland.  This allowed them to create an “anvil and hammer” effect with Allied forces squeezing the Germans on two fronts in the north and south of France.
