Hi Honey:
Until you’ve ridden around the mountains of this country in:
1. A jeep;
2. A strict black-out;
3. A hurry;
You haven’t lived. Whoosh, never again! That’s the only time I drive, but I trust my 20/20’s more than I do a G.I.’s 20/80 eyes. The country is really beautiful, thought, even at night.
I spent 2 hours last night learning to speak Italian. It is much like Spanish and now that I know that anytime I need it I can learn it easily, I shall probably not work on it.
The Italians don’t think too highly of Sicilians, considering them as agrarian colonists. If there’s anything left of the cities of Italy, the should be a welcome relief from what we have seen. It is rather amazing how low one’s standards of comfort fall when away from the United States. The houses which appear good are little better, if any, than the slums of the average American city.
I love you dearly, Cy.
